Remember, as a kid, when school let out in June, and September seemed eons away—until you went to sleep, and when you awoke, it was August 31st? Remember? Perhaps those with children remember putting their toddler to bed with hugs and kisses goodnight, only to return the next morning to their room to find them several feet taller and driving. Weird, isn’t it?
Well, last I remember, it was January 2018 and I was resolved not to make any resolutions. Looking back, I’m not quite sure how to sum the year. There were some highs and lows (naturally) but focusing on the ‘highs’ leaves a better taste in the mouth.
Positives on a non-novelist level: my daughter attained employment (yay!), my son continued employment, and I received an award at my job. The highlight of 2018 for me, however, embraced my non-novelist and novelist sides: I saw Hamilton in New York—just the best. I like history and plays, and so … yeah. And getting to visit with the cast backstage …? Highlight up the wazoo. From a novelist perspective, 2018 also saw increased exposure for my book series: Wazoo highlight, part two.
But it’s a new year with new highs (and lows) in the offing. I’ll deal with the lows, as we all must, but the main highlight I’m shooting for, is releasing Book 3: Broken Benevolence. My longest work to date, this new release in the book series centers around trauma counseling, and psychiatrist, Dr. Naomi Alexander’s process for getting her patient to overcome obstacles from many sides. There are surprises I enjoyed adding, as well as a lot of character fun I’m hoping fans will revel in, too.
If all goes well, perhaps reading Broken Benevolence will be among readers’ book-reading highlights for the year.
Here’s hoping.
